Office M4K is a design studio working across a range of scales, from one metre to one kilometre.

The name is both an address and a ratio. M4K is the postal code of Riverdale in Toronto, where the office began with two houses now rising on Grandview Avenue. Read it as metre for kilometre: the span of scales the office works across.

From that first postal code the practice now works between Toronto and Charlotte, carrying one approach from the house to the city block. It diversifies the thinking and research that already exist in a particular context and applies them to architecture, aiming for simple yet unique solutions to site specific problems. Office M4K is small yet thinks big.

Philippe Le Quellec

Partner

Philippe Le Quellec is a cofounding partner of Office M4K, which he started with Sarah Baxendale in Riverdale, Toronto. He leads the design of the office's work, from retail fit outs and custom single family homes to multiplexes and mixed use multifamily buildings, and divides his time between Toronto and Charlotte.

Before founding the office he worked at OMA in Rotterdam and New York and at SOM in New York, designing across a wide range of scales, programs and contexts. That range is the basis of the practice: the same rigour applied at one metre and at one kilometre.

Philippe holds a Master of Architecture from the University of British Columbia. He is an adjunct professor at Rochester Institute of Technology, where he teaches design studios on adaptive reuse, housing and the typology of the tower.

Sarah Baxendale

Partner

Sarah Baxendale is a cofounding partner of Office M4K. She runs the business side of the practice, from client relationships and new work to financial strategy.

Trained as an architect, with a background in real estate development, Sarah brings a client side understanding of how projects are financed, approved, and built. She works in development at Space Craft, focused on mixed use and multifamily housing, mass timber, and master planning across the United States. Previously, she worked at several major architecture firms on projects ranging from conception to completion, including Sidewalk Toronto and CIBC Square.

Sarah is a 2026 recipient of the Charlotte Business Journal’s Women in Business Award. She holds a Master of Architecture and an Interdisciplinary Graduate Certificate in Real Estate from UC Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Environmental Design from the University of British Columbia.
